Acupressure Description and Uses

Acupressure involves the same theory, strategy, and stimulation points used in acupuncture.  In acupressure, however, stimulation is provided by gentle, firm pressure of hands—and no needles are used.  Acupressure is a powerful treatment and is especially effective for patients who are uncomfortable with needles—for instance, small children or patients with movement disorders.  Acupressure is a safe, effective, and gentle treatment.  It is useful for treating a wide variety of conditions to relieve stress and tension, improve circulation, and enable the body to relax deeply.

Another benefit of acupressure is that, with proper direction, patients can often continue therapy on themselves at home.  This extends the benefit of each session and enables patients to be active participants in treatment.
